[Freespace] BMNL

Creativity, Community and Civic Innovation

Please note: Our [Freespace] Caitwick ended September 30 2016. We had an amazing half year in which many people have felt “home” and enjoyed the venue and/or it’s events.
We are grateful for all that have been involved and hope it has created a spark for a future BMNL Freespace project.
First feedback has been that community members wish a [Freespace] that will be situated at a more centrally located venue.
We at Burning Man NL are looking forward to feedback and ideas and/or suggestions which can be mailed to contact@burningman.nl under the subject “Freespace”.

With Burning Love !

Mission

The [Freespace] movement is an experiment in what is possible when a community shares the gift of physical space. A [Freespace] is a sanctuary for people of all ages to come together, to create, teach, learn, and share the things which they are truly passionate about, and strengthen connections between individuals as well as communities through art, social activities, and long term projects.

What is [Freespace]

[Freespace] began in San Francisco on June 2013, inspired by the National Day of Civic Hacking when a building was gifted to the community for just $1 for just one month. The radically low barrier to entry and open door policy lead to a hugely diverse range of people from different cultural, economic, and professional backgrounds connecting and creating projects together such as a free bike share, maker classes for people in homeless shelters, and a community garden.

Global movement

[Freespace] has become a global movement. Currently there are [ Freespaces ] developing in 26 locations and 18 different countries around the world. Inspired by this movement [Freespace] Caitwick will develop itself into a inspiration and meeting space for “Creativity, Community and Civil Innovation “.

*BYOC : meaning that you are supposed to bring and take responsibility for your own cup, bowl and cutlery. There will be many participants offering food or drinks and if all of them bring disposable utensils it adds unnecessary strain on both our [Freespace] and our planet. BYOC solves this problem.
